August in Review

Once again I’m linking up with Emily at [Chatting at the Sky](http://www.chattingatthesky.com) to share the things I learned this month. Here they are in no particular order.

1. Apparently I am a very sweet person because mosquitos love me. Upon stepping out the door I will get no less than 5 new mosquito bites every time. My husband (who mosquitos seem to ignore) found [this interesting article](http://blogs.smithsonianmag.com/science/2013/07/why-do-mosquitoes-bite-some-people-more-than-others/) about why mosquitos are more attracted to certain people. Unfortunately it’s not very helpful, as mosquitos seem to be attracted by uncontrollable factors like blood type and the kinds of invisible bacteria that live on your skin. However, [if we could just find a high powered fan to blow across our entire back yard](http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/16/science/a-low-tech-mosquito-deterrent.html?_r=1&) I think we’d be golden.

2. August flies by! After the lazy summer months of June and July, August seems to just come out of nowhere and – BAM! – it’s fall. I’m sure this sensation is worse for parents with kids in school. I just experienced it with a severe uptick in things to do at work. As the only graphic designer in a church with a lot of ministries that start back up and need to be promoted in August, I had my hands full. Thankfully September is all about getting back in a routine and things should calm back down again.

3. Speaking of routines, I found I have a lot of things I want to write about on this blog, so I’m going to try to increase my writing routine from once a week to 2-3 times a week. I hope this is as exciting for you as it is for me. (Remember you can sign up in the sidebar to get email updates from my blog if you are so inclined.)

4. Dogs can have pollen allergies. Instead of sneezing they scratch and lick their feet constantly. Who knew?

5. It’s a lot more comfortable to go on an evening walk in August wearing shorts rather than jeans. I know, I know. This should be obvious. But I don’t ever really wear shorts, so I was rather surprised at the difference it made when I tried it one time this week. But of course, I got a couple mosquito bites on my legs.

You got me on the dog one! I knew they could have allergies but no idea how it manifested. Good luck with your extra blog posts!
